Terry Abner Salon is the culmination of a vision Terry had years ago during his five- year “sabbatical” in the Windy City. After finishing his schooling Terry started his salon career in Valparaiso. Then feeling the call of the city, he moved to Chicago, where he worked and taught at one of the premier salons for a five-year stint before returning to Valpo. During his five years in the city Terry started formulating what he wanted to see in his own salon. His goal was to start a salon with a comfortable, artistic environment with caring stylists who provide consistently high-grade services. In 1998 the Terry Abner Salon was born. Knocking down walls, doubling the space, hiring experienced stylists, creating a comfortable “living room” and after a few years adding a beautiful downstairs nail salon, Terry brought his vision to reality. In an industry with constant turnover, Terry Abner Salon is a standout of consistency and happy professionals. Six of his employees have been with him over ten years, But Terry has also mentored several younger stylists. He finds their fresh ideas and eye on fashion keep the salon current as they all learn from each other. His team keeps learning in other ways too, taking classes and attending conferences to keep up with current trends and techniques. Local artists display their artwork on his walls, and new ones appear. The salon, although housed in a period building, always appears fresh, new and comfortable.
